March for Justice in Law 2022 One of my favorite days of the year; Everyone deserves access to justice. It was a great morning walking with my team and representing Sparke Helmore Lawyers. 23. In September 2020, the Notre Dame Law Students` Society (NDLSS), in collaboration with the Leo Cussen Centre for Law, hosted the annual cocktail. This year, I had the task of organizing and planning the event.
This was called “end-of-exam extravagance.” As a law school, we have been fortunate to host several events this year as a means of inclusion and celebration. Connectivity is paramount in these uncertain times, which is what social events have aspired to and succeeded in 2020. On September 5, I had the privilege of hosting the Notre Dame Law Students` Society (NDLSS) Annual Law Ball, sponsored by the College of Law Australia. The event was sold out with 300 attendees and was a wonderful night to celebrate for law students at the beginning and end of their careers. I want to thank the College of Law for their support of the NDLSS this year, the NDLSS Committee for trusting me to host a major event in 3 weeks, and Lachy Sudlow for her monumental efforts. The CEO of Law Access was honored to be invited to speak pro bono at Sunday`s annual conference on the impact of family law. We have GOOD news! Registration for the 2021 Access to Law for Justice Walk is OPEN! The event begins on Tuesday, May 18. Our guest speaker was the Honourable Justice Jennifer Smith of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, who presented our first impact report at the event. Time: 7:30am Start, event ends between 8:30am and 9:00am It was an honor to accept the 2020 Best Club Award on behalf of the Notre Dame Law Students` Society (NDLSS) with our 2020 President, Siobhan Blake. The entire committee has worked so hard this year and this award is a tribute to each member. While we don`t volunteer for recognition, I`m very proud of what we`ve accomplished.
Last night was bittersweet when I officially finished my duties as NDLSS. The last 3 years have been amazing and I am very grateful for the opportunities and friendships the committee has bought me. Here is the conclusion of a chapter of my life. I wish the 2021 committee well next year. When I was 12, I came home from school on a Friday and told my parents, “When I grow up, I`ll be a lawyer.” From that day on, I made it my mission to make this dream come true. Throughout my studies, many professors told me that I would never go to law school. I used it to fan my fire and became more determined than ever. Since I began my journey at Notre Dame, I have endured many trials; The first year, I drove 3 hours to university, the second year, my mother`s cancer diagnosis, the third year, I left home, and this year, in my last year, the death of my mother-in-law.
Despite these difficulties, I managed to complete my Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting). I will cherish my time in college, some of the best years of my life. I made lifelong friendships, endless memories, did several internships, served as vice president of the NDLSS, and got a graduate position for the coming year. I sincerely thank my family, especially my parents who supported me wholeheartedly on this journey, my mentors and colleagues who challenged me to be a better version of myself, and my friends who cried and laughed with me. Let`s move on to the next chapter.
