Legal reformLegal reform is the process of reviewing existing laws and promoting and implementing changes in a legal system and aims to improve fairness and efficiency. The MNCLC conducts legislative reforms based on community experience to ensure fair, equitable and safe access to justice for all. We respond to parliamentary requests and work with governments and institutions when we see a need for change. Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca are also home to more than six hundred young people who are disconnected from education and employment. This group of young people includes those who are in out-of-home care and are currently supporting Mid North Coast CLC through the LevelUp project, funded by the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW until December 2019. LevelUp will continue beyond December 2019 thanks to new government funding. Youth transitioning from out-of-home care to independence are among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in our community. Many of the problems of discrimination have a civil law dimension. LevelUP has shown that the help of a lawyer can make a huge difference for a young person, especially those who have had nursing experience. We want to provide a safe, reliable and accessible legal service to empower and support members of the Mid North Coast community so that they can access and use the law and legal system to protect and promote their legal rights. This position is at the forefront of innovative service delivery, working with health justice partners and an experienced community engagement staff member to provide holistic legal services. The role would suit an enthusiastic and dynamic lawyer who enjoys working with multidisciplinary teams. Legal advocacyLegal advocacy is offered on behalf of clients who have a significant legal problem and are unable to represent themselves.

This is especially important for people who find themselves unable to engage in the legal system, as it provides the MNCLC with free legal information to community groups in the areas of law we provide legal advice. The goal is to help people understand how the legal system works and how legal problems can be solved. This can help people know their legal rights in various areas of law. Legal education can also provide guidance so that minor disputes do not become legal problems. MNCLC provides legal advice and information to people living in the local government areas of Midcoast (Taree), Kempsey Shire, Port Macquarie-Hastings, Nambucca Shire, Bellingen Shire and Coffs Harbour (south of Woolgoolga). We offer public relations in the following areas: The Mid North Coast Legal Centre is seeking a lawyer to lead the new Health Justice Partnership (LAMP) (Legal and Mental Health Partnership) program in several locations.

Health Justice Partnerships places lawyers in health care facilities to reach clients who would not otherwise see a lawyer and help them with unhealthy legal needs. Disability Law NSW employs lawyers within the law firm MONCLC to provide legal advice and support to people with disabilities who are clients of Disability Advocacy NSW. Some areas of law covered by NSW disability law: LevelUP: An innovative legal project to support young people in out-of-home care – March 2019 The Mid North Coast Legal Centre provides accessible and integrated legal advice services to people who have experienced domestic and domestic violence. We can provide specialist cases and support services for domestic and family violence, including: LevelUPConeUP Programme was a project originally funded by the New South Wales Foundation for Law and Justice in 2017. The project ended in December 2019, but MNCLC continued to work with vulnerable youth thanks to our ongoing funding. The local government areas of Coffs Harbour, Nambucca and Bellingen were identified by the Cameron Review in 2018 as a gap in the services of the Community Legal Center. Our aim is to provide legal services to socio-economically disadvantaged residents of MidCoast (Manning area), Port Macquarie-Hastings, Kempsey, Nambucca, Bellingen and Coffs Harbour.
