Lawyers provide direct legal representation ranging from legal advice and brief legal assistance to negotiations, mediation and full legal representation of low-income tenant households at risk of eviction and potential homelessness. The attorney should expect to appear regularly in Maine County, as well as before various administrative agencies, including housing agencies and other subsidized housing providers. Occasional practice is to be expected before the Superior Court and the Supreme Court of Maine. Lawyers also help tenants apply for rent assistance or other resources through local community action agencies, municipalities and public agencies. Pine Tree provides pro bono case recommendations in a variety of housing and consumer matters, IRS disputes, veteran estate planning cases, student representation in school disciplinary proceedings, and more. Pine Tree volunteers treated nearly 190 pro bono cases in 2021 and that number is expected to increase to more than 200 cases in 2022. Pine Tree also maintains strong internship and clerkship programs for students during the summer and academic year. The pro bono unit works with Pine Tree staff, volunteers, community stakeholders, bar associations, law firms, colleges and law schools in Maine to increase Pine Tree`s ability to provide exceptional legal services to the community. The pro bono lawyer will assist you in all these efforts. In the sports industry, Nan has cooperated with sports federations, clubs, sponsors and advertising agencies in their contract negotiations and dispute resolution. Pine Tree Legal Assistance has an immediate opening for a unique and exciting attorney position within the pro bono program. The pro bono lawyer is a key member of a three-person team responsible for recruiting, training and assisting volunteers who provide legal assistance to Pine Tree`s clients in priority areas of law. The pro bono role provides a great opportunity for both junior and experienced practitioners to engage in litigation, education, networking within the legal community, and reaching out to low-income communities in Maine. Bangor: The Bangor office paralegal will focus on preventing evictions for clients from some of Maine`s poorest communities in rural Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo counties. The paralegal is supervised by Managing Counsel Erica Veazey. Be part of the solution. Following a two-year Eviction Prevention grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we are expanding our Eviction Defense team and adding two Eviction Defense Paralegals! Thousands of tenants in Maine face eviction every year, and you can help. The Eviction Clerk is expected to support a wide range of activities related to the defence against eviction, including responsibility for reception and related communication with clients on cases and issues funded by the grant, outreach activities, and assistance with various clerical tasks. Responsibilities include assisting lawyers in court during the deportation process, if necessary; advocating for resources to prevent evictions; assistance in the development of recommendations; assistance with investigations; and document management. As part of his practice, Nan also advises clients and assists companies before making an employment decision to give them appropriate risk management techniques and discuss critical considerations to minimize potential liability.

His professional experience includes defending the EEOC and other administrative actions filed with federal and state agencies, as well as defending legal claims filed in court and arbitration. She has also represented clients on a variety of human resources and risk management issues, policy and procedure development, and training of management, supervisory and non-supervisory staff on employment and labour matters, including corporate compliance issues. The lawyers will work closely with other employees in their local Pine Tree office and will work with other state employees and the Pine Tree Housing Practice Group. Personal time at the local office is provided. All attorneys may be asked to occasionally cover deportation cases in other areas of Maine “as needed.” Frequent travel related to professional activities (including training) is required, and some evening or weekend trips may also be required to attend training, meeting or outreach activities.
